Poutwhat? Poutine!

You may not know this Canadian delicacy, but you will.

Anyways I need help with the ingredients. I'm coming from Canada so I don't know where to find these things in the area. Any help would be much appreciated. We're coming in two waves, some flying in San Fran, others driving down via Winnemucca. We're looking to pick up supplies along these two routes.

Most difficult is probably fresh cheddar cheese curds.
Next is vegetarian gravy. We can use beef or chicken gravy in a pinch, but I'd rather not exclude our vegetarian brothers and sisters.

Also, anyone have experience frying on playa? We're thinking of a big pot over a 65,000BTU burner with canola/vegetable oil.

Thanks in advance! Why didn't I think to look for a food tribe earlier? Sheesh.

    Yum, where are you camping?

I don't know about the veggie gravy, but two years ago I got white cheddar curds in Reno at the WalMart. I was amazed at how long it lasted on the playa...

We're going to be in the vicinity of 7:00 & Corvair. We're not serving right out of camp since we didn't manage to figure out how to get a food permit, but we'll be randomly gifting within a few blocks guerrilla stylez.

"Ketchup" will be at 4:30 and Plaza with a 32 foot tall ketchup bottle... and they will be giving away french fries every evening after dark....

then all you need is your graVY AND POUTINE.

    veggie gravy:
two easy options are mushroom gravy in a jar, or mushroom gravy sauce mix. most large grocery stores (Safeway, Lucky's, etc) have these in the sauce aisle, near the other ready-made gravies. Trader Joes doesn't have this, if memory serves.

You might also consider making a roux with butter and flour and then adding good chicken or veggie broth to it -- which are available at Trader Joes (if you're already there for the cheese curds). A lot of those gravy mixes and cans have a ton of MSG...

Hmmm, mushroom gravy might not taste quite the same, but for the hardline veggies it'd definitely be an option. I'll grab some for sure, maybe add some peppercorns to pep it up.
