Hi all, I'm going with a huge camp and am thinking of making poutine for my camp (as discussed in this thread: tribes.tribe.net/08bmvirgi...c2b4e61e), but need to fry the fries somehow. So I was thinking of making a deep-fryer, but I have no idea how that would work on the playa, especially since I'd need a massive power source. Any suggestions? Has anyone ever tried this before?

waste oil is the big issue.. you are taking a lot of equip and supplies for one meal/side dish... -

Re: Playa-compatible deep-fryer?
Thu, August 14, 2008 - 12:09 PMthanks for the tips, guys! (sorry i didn't check this thread earlier, guess i still haven't figured out if i can get post replies e-mailed straight to me... i thought i had!)
i'll deffo check out trader joe's, i didn't even know about wisconsin's cheese curds until i looked more into how to make them. (if this works, whew! 'coz i was thinking of making cheese curds myself using milk x_x)
i'll probably be using the camp's deep-fryer and will figure out the propane problem. but it's not a very large deep-fryer, so i don't think i'll be making poutine on a large scale.
gonna start the hunt for delicious veggie gravy this weekend :) wish me luck! -

Re: Playa-compatible deep-fryer?
Mon, May 11, 2009 - 6:39 PMI'm sure this or a similar question will come up again for 2009.
I'd definitely recommend propane. Costco sells propane deep-fryers for $99. As for the leftover oil, I'm sure you could reuse it a couple times for frying other foods. Then comes the fun part. Vegetable oil is handy for anything flame-related ... as lamp oil, to really get your trash burn barrel started, in tiki torches, etc.
Just remember to follow the guidelines for safe open fires: www.burningman.com/themecam...open_fire
