</a>
							<div>Solar Cooker Instructions

1.	Cut two halves of flat box (18x18x24 ‘large” moving box) apart to make two identical sheets. Only one is needed
2.	Orient a sheet so the two pre-cut box flap cuts are horizontal
3.	Measure 11 inches from the bottom of the sheet in two places
4.	Draw a horizontal fold line through the two marks all the way across the sheet
5.	Measure up from the first line to two points 12 inches up
a.	Do not draw a line yet
b.	Check that this is13 inches from the top of the sheet
6.	Make an 8 inch horizontal line centered on the sheet through the marks. Mark the ends of this line clearly
a.	To make this line, measure inwards on each side 8 inches from the flap fold line
7.	Draw a cut line from each end of the 8 inch line down to the corner of the flap
8.	Draw another cut line from each end of the 8 inch line to the inner edge of the pre-cut flap cut
9.	Make cuts along the cut lines. Save the scrap triangles from this cut
10.	At the top of the sheet mark off two points 4 inches inward from the flap fold.
11.	Draw a fold line on each side from these points to the ends of the 8 inch line
12.	Using a straight rigid object like a ruler or board edge – Fold along the four fold lines
13.	Fold the back up and bend the wings inward until they cross where the flap fold lines cross the fold line for the bottom panel
14.	Mark a slot line where the wings extend past the fold line on the bottom panel
15.	Carefully cut a 1/8” slot on the line
16.	Tape the tips of the wings with duct tape to stiffen them
a.	If the tips need to be longer trim and tape on the scrap triangles to extend them
17.	Spray the cooker with adhesive or cover with contact cement or dilute Elmer’s glue
18.	Take foil (heavy duty if available) out of box. Unroll foil across cooker on adhesive with shinny side up. Smooth out with hands or a rag
a. Trim foil after adhesive has set

Using the Cooker
1.	Take a black saucepan (1 to 3 quarts) and fill it with food. Cut food up to improve cooking time.
a.	Do not add water!
2.	Mason jars that have been painted black will also work.
a.	Do not tighten lids
3.	Place several screw-on jar lids on the flat part of the folded cooker
a.	This will reduce heat loss
4.	Place the sauce pan in a clear plastic oven bag that has been tied closed around the handle with a piece of string.
5.	Point the cooker at the sun, or where the sun will be during the cooking process
6.	Lift the front flap up so its shadow extends half way out.
7.	Use a hot mitt when removing food. The heated pot will cause burns!
8.	Most food will cook in a few hours:
a.	Acorn squash
b.	Potatoes
9.	Eggs cook well when scrambled
a.	Cook onions and mushrooms first for a while to make a scramble
10.	Mac’n Cheese can be made in about 50 minutes by covering pasta with water and adding a little oil.
11.	Rice, Dried Beans, Lentil, etc all cook well. Try Zatarians mix.
12.	Mid day sun is best. Start dinner around 2 PM
13.	No stirring is required – ever, and food can’t burn.
